
Ms. Sucheta Chatterjee joined the Indian Foreign Service in 2013 and took over as Consul General of India in Phuentsholing, Bhutan, on 30 April 2026.
Over the course of her diplomatic career, she has served in a range of political, consular and policy assignments in India and abroad. She was posted in Paris from 2015 to 2018 as Third Secretary and subsequently Second Secretary (Political), and later served as Consul in San Francisco, United States, from 2018 to 2020. She returned to Paris as First Secretary (Political) from 2020 to 2022.
At Headquarters, Ms. Chatterjee has worked in the Eurasia Division as Under Secretary, in the Cyber Diplomacy Division as Deputy Secretary, and in the Passport Seva Programme (PSP) Division as Director. Her professional experience includes bilateral and multilateral political affairs, cyber diplomacy, passport policy and legal matters.
Ms. Chatterjee holds Master’s degrees in International Law, Translation and Interpretation (French), and Human Rights. She is fluent in English, Bengali, Hindi and French. Her interests include literature, poetry, wildlife photography and trekking.
